Mozilla Corp., the creators of the open-source Firefox Web browser, have unveiled the first prototype smartphones that Web developers will be able to use to test applications designed to run on the organization’s forthcoming Firefox OS mobile phone software.
The two devices, known as the Keon model and the Peak model, will be produced by Geeksphone in partnership with Telefonica, according to a blog post written by Stormy Peters, Mozilla’s director of Websites and developer engagement.
Mozilla is looking to make the two devices available to Web developers in February. The organization is working with several device manufacturers to create the final phones which will be made available to consumers. Mozilla has not publicly stated when the first Firefox OS phones will be made available to consumers.
Mozilla also offers step-by-step guides on how to build apps for the new operating system.
